Novak Djokovic has reached the final of the Australian Open 2023. The Serb beat American player Tommy Paul in routine fashion in the semifinals 7-5 6-2 6-1 to seal a place in the final and a chance to lift a 10th title on the Rod Laver Arena. Should the Serb win then he would equal Rafael Nadal’s grand slam titles of 22. In the final Novak plays Stefanos Tsitsipas, a Greek 24-year-old with grand slam final experience.
Novak the Big Favourite.
Novak will enter Rod Laver Arena as the big favourite. Despite playing with a leg strain, Djokovic has overcome wobbly moments in the early rounds to really demonstrate his high level of tennis. It seems that no matter how difficult the challenge, Novak can raise his level that little bit higher to overcome any obstacle. Tsitipas could well prove to be the most difficult challenge of all for Novak but there can be no doubt that Tsitsipas will be the underdog.
Novak has been open about his desire to statistically become the best player ever to play the game. His focus on securing the grandest slams of any player has been well documented. Something that Djokovic is not backward about letting the world know. He has frequently spoken about the desire to achieve this statistical record. Djokovic must be in the Greatest of All Time debate, there can be no doubt. What he lacks in support from certain sections in terms of his style and his likeability he certainly makes up for in his incredible records on the tennis court.
